Persuasive Speech Topic Examples

Dear students,

To choose topics for speech, you have to pick from any of these categories;

1. Speech about facts i.e to argue whether a statement is true or false

e.g. Topic: Shark Fin

Specific purpose: To persuade my audience that shark fin does not have any health benefits

Central idea: Many people believe that eating shark fin can improve human's health quality but  actually it does not contribute any benefits at all.

2. Speech about value i.e. to argue that an idea/action is right or wrong from moral point of view

 e.g.  Topic: Abortion

Specific purpose;   To persuade my audience that abortion is wrong form religion and legal     perspective.

Central idea: Abortion is very cruel act and many religions condemn it and it is against the human rights.

3. Speech about policy i.e. to argue that a specific action should be taken or not.

e.g. Topic: Pollution

Specific purpose: To persuade my audience to stop polluting the environment

Central idea: There are several reasons why human being must stop polluting the environment.

Please email the topic details to this address of

Informative and Persuasive Speech Instruction

Dear students,

Instructions for both speeches are almost similar to the introductory speech. Please take note of the reminders below. Thank you.

1. You are given six minutes to deliver your speeches with first warning given after five minutes and last warning after six minutes (if you disobey, you can lose substantial marks).

2. You are also strongly encouraged to accompany your speech with multimedia presentation (e.g. PowerPoint, Prezi, Flash etc ).

3. If you include any multimedia items e.g. videos, flash files, please ensure that item duration + speech duration do not exceed the the speech time limit.

4. You need to submit your preparation outline (please refer to Chapter 11 and blog for examples) before the presentation. Failure to do so may cause you to be disallowed from presenting.

p/s we will begin with informative speech presentation first. Persuasive speech presentation date most likely will be during final examination period.
